5th Annual UNESCO-UNEVOC TVET Summit

“Skills and Employability through E-learning”

The 5th African UNESCO-UNEVOC ICT in TVET Summit, which focused on “Skills and Employability through E-learning”, took place in the context of the 6th eLearning Africa conference in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, on 25 May 2011. It addressed key issues and challenges related to integrating ICT into TVET and introduced initiatives that aim to improve access to and quality of learning and teaching.

As in the previous years, the Summit was organized by UNESCO-UNEVOC in partnership with the UNESCO Regional Office for Education in Africa (UNESCO/BREDA), the Commonwealth of Learning (COL) and the German Federal Institute for Vocational Education and Training (BIBB).

At the Summit, representatives of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) presented about the organization’s e-learning initiative.

The Commonwealth of Learning (COL) introduced participants to its programme “Flexible Skills Development”, an initiative to expand access to TVET through ICT.

Speakers from Kenya, Swaziland and Malawi shared national experiences of integrating ICT into TVET at the Summit.

The African UNESCO-UNEVOC TVET Summit functions as a platform for knowledge sharing among TVET researchers, policy makers and practitioners about innovative ways to introduce technology into skills programmes and vocational orientation approaches.
