Moving to Action through Collaborative Capacity Development

As part of the UNEVOC Collaborative Capacity Development Programme, a workshop was organized by six UNEVOC centres, from the Caribbean and North American clusters of the UNEVOC Network in Kingston, Jamaica from the 9-11 October 2017. The workshops focused on two of the three main tenets of the UNESCO TVET Strategy 2016-2021: Fostering youth employment and entrepreneurship, and Facilitating the transition to green economies and sustainable societies.

The UNESCO-UNEVOC International Centre invited UNEVOC Network Members to submit proposals on collaborative capacity development activities. Building on the expertise that is available within the UNEVOC Network, this programme aims at stimulating and strengthening the collaboration among UNEVOC Centres in mutual Capacity Development and fostering greater regional consolidation.

This Collaborative Capacity Development Workshop was one of the successful applications selected for implementation and support in 2017. The workshop on Jamaica is the first of two workshops organized in the framework of this activity.

These 6 UNEVOC centres jointly developed the Workshop Programme to leverage the collective expertise in countering the individual challenges. Each participating UNEVOC centre delivered knowledge-sharing and discussion sessions that raised awareness concerning current issues in TVET, enhancing the capacity of the attendees and their institutions to understand and address these issues and be able to design and deliver relevant learning solutions. Importantly this will facilitate dialogue towards new institutional cooperation and associations that may lead to future collaboration on issues in TVET.

Hosted by the University of Technology, Jamaica, the workshop saw the participation of the following UNEVOC Centres:
