Workshops, meetings, and networking opportunities were held in conjunction with parallel activities across Europe. A VET inter-agency meeting with bilateral organizations was chaired by Joost Korte, Director General for Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion, European Commission, and Borhene Chakroun, Section Chief of Youth, Literacy and Skills Development, UNESCO. The meeting was an opportunity to take up new challenges and explore areas for future collaboration.
During the week, CEDEFOP organized a conference on the future of VET. Mr. Shyamal Majumdar, Head of UNESCO-UNEVOC, gave a keynote speech at the conference on “The future of VET- Looking beyond Europe”. He highlighted the importance of building bridges between Europe and the rest of the world with the goal of improving VET worldwide. Mr. Majumdar also spoke at the closing event on the topic of “Skill as an accelerator for implementing the sustainable development agenda”.
By the end of the week, 1512 events had taken place in over 40 countries. This year’s campaign reached over 2.2 million people, an increase of 1.2 million compared to last year (EU Commission). In addition, associated activities and events are being organized across Europe until December 2018.
