Mobile Training Team in Mauritius

Qualification Frameworks and Competency-based Approaches in TVET

This UNESCO-UNEVOC Mobile Training Team (MTT) focussed on qualification frameworks and competency-based approaches in TVET among other things. Vocational education leaders from UNEVOC Centres in Cameroon, Congo (Brazaville), Ivory Coast, Sierra Leone and Gambia participated in a country study visit on 17-21 June 2007 to learn from the experiences and successes of Mauritius. They also collected materials and framework documents for further reflection and dissemination. As a next step, a post-study visit regional seminar will take place.

The main aims of the MTT were to:

  • learn about good policies and effective planning in TVET in the African context;
  • promote “best practice” in African countries;
  • promote demand driven training programmes;
  • promote quality skills training;
  • develop national skills qualification frameworks;
  • promote relevant TVET training to national development challenges through the application of competency based approaches and other quality and relevance assurance mechanisms; and
  • promote poverty reduction strategies in Africa.
The MTT followed on the outcomes of earlier seminars that were held in Dakar, Senegal and Yaoundé, Cameroon.

About MTTs

The MTT modality is multi-faceted. MTTs cover the areas of policy, planning and learning contents of TVET. Apart from consolidating the connections of the UNEVOC professionals, they entail comparative studies, production of materials to improve policy and practice in TVET, the education of trainers in the region and the dissemination of lessons learnt and models.
