Promoting TVET and Development Cooperation in TVET

Exhibitor Description

BIBB | Federal Institute for Vocational Education and Training
Researching | Advising | Shaping the Future
The Federal Institute for Vocational Education and Training (BIBB) is recognized as a center of excellence for vocational research and for the progressive development of vocational education and training (VET) in Germany. BIBB works to identify future challenges in VET, stimulate innovation in national and international vocational systems, and develop new, practice-oriented solutions for both initial and continuing vocational education and training.
The TVET Academy
Although TVET is commonly accepted by most people as one of the best ways to employment for our youth, the number of obstacles one developing country has to overcome to implement a good system and reach out to the masses is quite daunting. Most people will point to budget issues as the main reason for failure, resulting in a lack of infrastructure and workshop equipment as well as low teachers’ salaries, but there many more less tangible yet very real reasons like students demotivation for TVET, shortage of skilled and motivated teachers, lack of internships in local enterprises, inadequacy of current vocational trainings’ curricula with the real market requirements, students absenteeism due to insecurity, family pressure, ... We would certainly not claim to solve them all but our success in Cambodia gives us strong hopes that we could have a very significant positive impact. At little cost if we join forces and do the right things with the right partners.

Leonardo Award
Implementation of beacon projects
The Leonardo Award honours organizations and individuals who, in the era of globalisation, devote their zeal and lifeblood to the search for innovative solutions to the daunting challenges in the field of learning, be it in a company, an organization or society. They have all initiated projects with model character. In these projects the focus lies on the interplay between knowledge and learning in companies and society, as well as the importance for the lifestyle of individuals and the success of businesses. The prize was awarded for the first time in 2010 to Professor Jacques Delors. Since 2012, the international Leonardo jury has now presented the award in three categories: "Thought Leadership", "Company Transformation" and "Crossing Borders". The overlaps between the categories are intentional, as multidimensionality, in the sense of the namesake Leonardo da Vinci, is understood as part of the holistic consideration of education.
