Sustainable development (SD)

Meeting the social, environmental and economic needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their needs (e.g. climate change, inequality and human rights, biodiversity loss, deforestation, waste and pollution).

The concept of sustainable development includes three components – economic development, social development and environmental protection – as interdependent and mutually reinforcing pillars.

(role of TVET for sustainable development)

TVET contributes to sustainable development by empowering individuals, organizations, enterprises and communities and fostering employment, decent work and lifelong learning so as to promote inclusive and sustainable economic growth and competitiveness, social equity and environmental sustainability.
