The Department has the responsibility concerning all aspects of vocational education and training (VET), skills development and out of school youths that relate directly to employment opportunities. The Department of Technical Education (DTE) is now mandated to act as the focal agency to plan, develop and coordinate all human resource development activities for the country.

The DTE is purely a government organization. It also currently offers skill training programmes for school leavers, villagers and special groups of people i.e. disabled, juveniles, monks, nuns and spouses of armed force personnel, etc.

DTE’s vision is to become a leader in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) in the region. Its mission is to achieve a globally competitive workforce through a holistic TVET that creates a more cohesive society and secures a stable economic future for all citizens.
