Department of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (DTVET) under the Ministry of Science and Technology is the focal Department of TVET Sector. DTVET has been making efforts with accelerated momentum to achieve advancement in vocational education in the country and to obtain the skilled workers essential for socio-economic development of country. Therefore, our country needs to reform the vocational education system and to contribute International TVET practice, experience and methodology.

Under DTVET, there are 4 Government Technical Colleges, 24 Government Technical Institutes, 35 Government Technical High Schools, Singapore-Myanmar Vocational Training Institute (SMVTI), Nyang Shwe Vocational Training Institute (NVTI), English Language Proficiency School (ELPS), Yatana Welding Training Center (YWTC), School of Industrial Training and Education (SITE), Food & Beverage Vocational Training Center (F&BVTC) for vocational education and training.

DTVET is responsible for capacity building of human resources in various levels from all Government Technical Colleges, Government Technical Institutes and Government Technical High Schools in Myanmar in order to train qualified technicians and skilled persons. So, we need to develop these sectors such as formulating the program of strong linkages between academic and industries, setting the priorities for occupational skills that will be met with industrial needs, organizing training programs in vocational trades for the students who dropped out at various levels of the formal education system and training and nurturing skilled technicians who are imbued with a sense if conscientiousness and convictions to cherish the state.

DTVET is cooperating with other TVET related ministries and international organizations for formal and non-formal vocational training to promote TVET sector in Myanmar and to develop the TVET Master for Myanmar. We have to prepare work ready human resources in line with the growth of industrial sectors. We need to fulfill the needs of various industrial sectors and shape the future linkage among the institutes, industries and private sector in our country.

 The vision of the DTVET is to "continuously train and develop technical and vocational human resources in line with local needs to support the socio-economic development of the country". Its objective is:

(1) To increase access to vocational education for all who want to learn;

(2) To provide vocational training to help citizens find employment and increase per capita income.
