Technical and Vocational Education and Training Authority

UNEVOC Centre (National Body) since 2017

The Technical and Vocational Education and Training Authority (TVETA) is a State Corporation established under the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Act No. 29 of 2013. The Authority is mandated to regulate and Coordinate TVET in Kenya and promote access, equity, quality and relevance in TVET by inspecting, registering, accrediting and licensing TVET institutions, trainers and programs.


To develop a TVET system that meets the needs of stakeholders and National aspirations


  • Regulate training in TVET institutions by accrediting and inspecting programmes and courses
  • Prescribe the minimum criteria for admission to training institutions and programmes in order to promote access, equity and gender parity.
  • Liaise with the national and county governments and the public and the private sector on matters relating to training;
  • Ensure maintenance of standards, quality and relevance in all aspects of training, including training by or through open, distance and electronic learning;
  • Approve introduction of new training programmes and review existing programmes in TVET institutions

Regular tasks

  • Assessment of TVET institutions for registration and licensing of courses in Kenya
  • Maintaining database of TVET institutions operating in Kenya, their enrollment and staffing
  • Quality assurance of TVET institutions
  • Collection, analysis and publication of information on Kenyan TVET training
  • Developing standards for TVET training in Kenya
  • Approving new training programs and reviewing existing programs in Kenyan TVET system
