Approved by the Ministry of Education, China in March 1999, Shaanxi Polytechnic Institute (SXPI) was upgraded from the former Xianyang Machine Making School, which was a top Chinese secondary school founded in 1950. SXPI was the first higher vocational education college approved by the Ministry of Education in northwest China.

Located in Xianyang, a city renowned for its long history and splendid culture, SXPI provides 65 academic specialties including Equipment Manufacturing, Electronic and Electric Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Information Technology, Business, Public Service, Logistics Management, Civil Engineering, Textile Dyeing, and Clothing Art. Covering an area of 73.3 hectares, SXPI has more than 22,000 students and 1,180 staffs, with a total of 986 teachers including 103 professors and 386 associate professors. The number of teachers with Master’s or Doctor’s Degrees is more than 90%. In recent years, SXPI has sent more than 420 teachers and staff for various training opportunities in oversea countries and Taiwan, Hong Kong regions.

SXPI has 196 professional training rooms on campus, including two national and five provincial training rooms. In cooperation with the business society in vocational education, SXPI has established 249 training bases in enterprises for its students. The number of books in the library is 1.31 million.

In its 72 year history, over 140 thousand students have graduated from SXPI. The college was awarded a variety of awards and titles including Chinese Advanced Unit of Vocational Education.
