UNEVOC Centre (Uni/Research) since 2015
Fiji National University (FNU) formed in 2010 as a result of a merger between six institutions in Fiji, namely the Fiji Institute of Technology, Fiji School of Nursing, Fiji College of Advanced Education, Lautoka Teachers College, Fiji School of Medicine and Fiji College of Agriculture. It is currently led by acting vice chancellor Professor James Pounder.
FNU now has campuses and centres at 33 locations throughout the country, running a total of approximately 300 different courses and programmes comprising Certificates, Trade Certificates , Diplomas, Advanced Diplomas, Degrees and Postgraduate studies, with multiple, flexible, entry and exit points and part time studies that accommodate life opportunities and career schedules.
The University aims to be the premier university for higher education, technical and vocational education and training, research and development in Fiji and the Pacific region, and to be the national centre of excellence in Fiji for all things related to training and productivity.
The University shall provide leadership in all intellectual pursuits in higher education, research and development, and acquisition of relevant and quality technical skills in all trades and soft skills that are necessary for the development of nations, businesses, and communities.
To promote scholarship, research, free inquiry, academic excellence, and trade competence and in this process create, disseminate, maintain, and advance knowledge and productivity by teaching, training and other means, for the welfare and needs of the communities of Fiji and those from any other overseas communities who may wish to receive tertiary education. The University shall be concerned with education and training at the post-secondary levels, including technical and vocational education and training, consistent with international standards of teaching, research, and other academic activities in institutions styled as institutions of higher learning.
