Abu Dhabi Centre for Technical and Vocational Education and Training
(ACTVET)

UNEVOC Centre (National Body) since 2017

The Abu Dhabi Centre for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (ACTVET) was established in 2010 by the directive of His Highness General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces and Chairman of the Executive Council.

ACTVET is committed to establishing policies and standards that effectively regulate technical and vocational educational institutions in the emirate of Abu Dhabi. ACTVET is also responsible for the licensing of trainers that meet the demands of the UAE’s local market.

The Centre is accredited as an awarding‐body by the Vocational Education and Training Awards Council (VETAC), to quality assure the development and issuing of national and nationally recognized vocational qualifications and awards. ACTVET oversees a number of entities that provide accredited educational and vocational training programs. The entities consist of the Abu Dhabi Vocational Education and Training Institut(ADVETI) and the Institute of Applied Technology (IAT). In line with the best international standards, this institutes prepare students for the local labour market.


Mission

ACTVET aims to boost training and educational opportunities for young nationals within the qualification framework of the Emirate with the ultimate goal of increasing the number of skilled Emirati youth in rewarding careers and foster life‐longnlearning and personal development.


Objectives

ACTVET’s key strategic objectives are:

‐ To promote life‐long learning

‐ To ensure the employability and career success of TVET graduates.


Regular tasks

‐ Devise strategies and policies related to technical and vocational education and training.

‐ Provide consultation, educational and training courses to public and private institutions in the Emirate.

‐ License vocational and technical institutions in line with applicable laws, regulation and accreditation.

‐ Develop strategies and mutually beneficial partnerships with public and private education companies and bodies, as well as with training institutes.

‐ Guide and assist Abu Dhabi Government and private institutions on technical and vocational education and training.

‐ Undertake original educational research in coordination with other Government bodies.

ACTVET publishes standards for virtual teaching
In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, ACTVET worked with teachers in order to define standards to maintain the quality of teaching in an increasingly virtual learning environment.
