National Skill Development Corporation India (NSDC), established in 2009, is a not-for-profit company set up by the Ministry of Finance, under Section 25 of the Companies Act, 1956 corresponding to section 8 of Companies Act, 2013. The present equity base of NSDC is Rs10 Crore of which the government of India through Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship (MSDE) holds 49%, while the private sector holds the balance 51%.

NSDC aims to promote skill development by catalyzing the creation of large, quality, and for-profit vocational institutions. Further, the organisation provides funding to build scalable and profitable vocational training initiatives. It also develops appropriate models to enhance, support and coordinate private sector initiatives. Its mandate is also to enable support systems which focuses on quality assurance, information systems and train the trainer academies either directly or through partnerships.

Highlights of NSDC activities:

-Creating robust training capacity in 29 Indian states & 4 Union Territories through the NSDC Partner Ecosystem - 560 districts have at least one NSDC Partner Centre

-Emerged as the implementation agency of choice for key government of India skilling schemes such as Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY), Udaan and National Urban Livelihoods Mission (NULM).

-Facilitated creation of 40 Sector Skill Councils consisting of over 450 representatives from Industry associations, Government and Academia - supporting employers to take lead in mapping Competency requirements

-Developed Competency Standards for Job Roles across Sectors - about 2100 Qualification Packs created

-Leading International Engagements for making skills transnational and enabling overseas movement of Indian workforce - collaborations with USA, UK, Australia, Canada, Germany Japan, France, Sweden and Denmark

-Collaboration with International Multilateral Organizations - World Bank, ADB, DFID, UNDP - on technical assistance, multi-lateral funding and other areas

-Mandated to conduct National and State level skill competitions across sectors; select and prepare the Indian contingent for participation in Worldskills Competition in Partnership with Companies, industry associations and skilling institutions
