Higher Industrial Technical Institute, Directorate General of Technical and Vocational Education

UNEVOC Centre (Ministry) since 1995

The Directorate General of Technical and Vocational Education is one of the Directorate Generals of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education in Lebanon. The Directorate Generale provides technical and vocational education to the students through a network of technical institutes and schools covering the entire territory of Lebanon. The Directorate General supervises as well all the private institutions providing TVET. At the end of each scholar year, the Directorate General organizes the public examinations and delivers official diplomas such as the Technical Baccalaureate, the dual system secondary education diploma, the Higher Technician Diploma and the Technical Licence (5 years of studies following the secondary education level). The Directorate General develops new curricula, creates new specialties and performs its duties in collaboration with the other ministries and with the representatives of the labor market.

The Higher Industrial Technical Institute is a public Institute rising of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education-Directorate General of Technical and Vocational Education-LEBANON.

The Institute prepares the higher technician diploma (2 years of education after the technical baccalaureate or the general baccalaureate) in order to obtain the technical License during one year of studies.

The goal of the HITI is to train students who can achieve their ambitions through the free choice of their future career by providing them with a high technical level of teaching in industrial, artistic and paramedical specialties.

In response to labor market needs and requirements of development, curricula have been designed to develop the spirit of technological innovation and globalization criteria. Thus, teaching and training meet and comply with the standards of production and work while respecting the quality, safety, environmental protection and competitive cost.

Major area of activity or specialisation: Higher technical education for industrial field

Vision Recognizing that TVET produces individual and social benefits encompassing the individual, the economy, and society at large, a high-quality TVET system in Lebanon will seek to:

- For individuals – Promote the employability of all residents of working age and improve their competencies and qualifications.53 The TVET system will positively contribute to the empowerment of individuals in their future careers as they contribute to Lebanese society in general. An inclusive TVET system will provide equal opportunities for all, welcoming marginalized populations, women, youth, minorities and PWDs.

- For businesses – Ensure the availability of a competent workforce for the development of businesses in Lebanon. The quality of TVET provision will act as an incentive for foreign investment.

- For the country – Contribute to inclusive and sustainable development, leaving no one behind. The TVET system will promote the principles of good citizenship, democracy and human rights, serving as a place for constructive dialogue between individuals and communities, and fostering social cohesion.

Mission: To implement this vision, the TVET system in Lebanon will be tripartite-led, fit for purpose and inclusive. It will provide competencies and life skills to meet the skills demand in the labour market, forming part of a larger education system with multiple pathways to encourage lifelong learning.
