TVET experts from various areas of the world reflected on contemporary trends in international skills development at a recent meeting of the Working Group for International Cooperation in Skills Development. The meeting took place in Hong Kong, China, 15-16 February 2007 and focussed on “Skills Development Policies and International Cooperation in East and Southeast Asia”. It was hosted by the Comparative Educational Research Centre (CERC), which is based at the Hong Kong University. A representative of UNESCO-UNEVOC gave a presentation on the UNESCO-UNEVOC approach to skills development in Asia.
The Working Group for International Cooperation in Skills Development is an informal group of bi- and multilateral donor agencies and international organisations involved in international assistance to vocational and technical skills development.
The Working Group is a forum to promote the exchange of new ideas and good practices, highlight key issues in the field of skills development and stimulate dialogue among its members. The Working Group meets at least once a year and the meetings are hosted and financed on an ad-hoc basis by its members.
