A management information system (MIS) is a subset of the overall internal controls of a business covering the application of people, documents, technologies, and procedures by management accountants to solving business problems such as costing a product, service or a business-wide strategy. Management information systems are distinct from regular information systems in that they are used to analyze other information systems applied in operational activities in the organization.
Vocational education institutions require management information systems that will assist them in their program planning, evaluation, monitoring and reporting responsabilities.
1. The progressive entry of new actors into the TVET offer, the
availability of a variety of sources of finance, and the necessary relevance that is demanded of training programmes are among the factors which have influence on the development of the modernization and transformation processes in TVET Institutions. Currently, the processes of transformation and adaptation to change are priority subjects on the training TVET Institutions’ agendas.
2. In a TVET market which is diverse and which has numerous offers, the enterprises, that is the users of TVET, have an increasing need to know which the best offers are, that is to say, which provide the best guarantee of quality. Both entrepreneurs and workers are seeking indications of efficiency. Providers of financial resources are also interested in the best use of funds invested in TVET. Public and private TVET Centres that are managed with quality are a social guarantee of the efficiency of public expenditure on training[1].
While the “Information” characterizes raw, non-processed data that is meaningful to the recipient by itself, the “Knowledge” characterizes processed information that is communicated to meaning, ideas, and conclusions. The value of Information is determined by the usefulness of the information exchanged as understood by the recipient.[2].
