TAFE Queensland with the Asia Pacific Technical College (APTC) in Fiji organized a ten-day programme that focused on enhancing technical and vocational education and training (TVET) in the Pacific. The programme sought to assist the Pacific Island nations to further develop effective TVET systems which will ultimately contribute to improving economic growth and increased uptake of TVET.
The need to develop quality education systems that contribute to the transition to sustainable economies and societies is essential for the Pacific region. The programme was organized in response to UNESCO-UNEVOC’s call for proposal for innovative capacity building programmes in the UNEVOC Network. TAFE Queensland, a member of the TAFE Directors Australia (TDA), part of the UNEVOC network since 2015, has experience in delivering Vocational Educational Leadership Training (VELT). The programme aimed to:
One of the long-term outcomes of the programme is the development of a network of TVET leaders within the Pacific Islands which will contribute to developing inclusive and equitable TVET systems, based on the principle of lifelong learning.
The Ministry of Education, National Heritage, Culture and Arts (Fiji), National University (Fiji), and the Institute of Technology (Kiribati) were among the 22 participants who took part in the programme. TAFE Queensland, a member of TAFE Directors Australia (TDA), supported by UNESCO-UNEVOC, was the lead organizer of the event. The event took place at the Asia Pacific Technical College (APTC) in Fiji.
