The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) in the Philippines celebrated World Teachers’ Day 2016 by organizing an award ceremony that recognized the contributions and accomplishments of TVET teachers and trainers in the Philippines. TESDA has been a UNEVOC Centre since 2005.
The TESDA Tagsanay Award is an institutional award system that gives recognition and incentives to trainers from private and public Technical Vocational Institutions (TVIs) who have exceeded the set requirements for TVET trainers and demonstrated competencies beyond expectations. The ceremony took place on September 22 at the TESDA Auditorium in Taguig City.
In his welcome remarks, TESDA Director General/Secretary Guiling Mamondiong thanked the awardees and the nominees and asked for their further support to advance TESDA’s activities for TVET for global competitiveness and social equity. The key note address by Assistant Cabinet Secretary Jonas George S. Soriano focused on how TESDA and its TVET partners, institutions, trainers, and graduates could help address poverty reduction and promote national pride.
Those receiving the award are judged on the basis of a portfolio evaluation; written examination; individual and team activities; effective or innovative Training Induction Program session evaluations; and panel interview evaluation. Special awards were given to trainers who excelled in each criterion. The Award draws inspiration from the Metrobank Foundation Inc. Search for Outstanding Teachers (MBFISOT) Awards, which recognizes model educators in primary, secondary, and tertiary education in the country.
