UNESCO, in its Revised Recommendation concerning Technical and Vocational Education
, adopted in 2001, emphasizes the need for TVET systems to adapt to the changes and demands of the knowledge-based society of the twenty-first century. A sustainable knowledge-based society must be values-centred, anchored on the respect for life, human dignity, the plurality and diversity of societies and cultures, human labour and work as source of self-actualization and self-fulfilment, as well as the power that fuels all economic and social development.
