The UNEVOC Network Coaction Initiative is a programme designed and coordinated by UNESCO-UNEVOC that supports UNEVOC Centres in their development and implementation of joint projects based on topics of shared interests. Launched in 2021, with the first projects implemented in 2022, this initiative was brought about by a desire to leverage the Network’s wealth of information, knowledge and expertise. Moreover, the Coaction Initiative represents a compelling opportunity to strengthen linkages and create new bonds among UNEVOC Centres. The opportunity to capitalize on these resources is what makes the Coaction Initiative special.

Based on a call for proposals launched by UNESCO-UNEVOC, UNEVOC Centres from around the world are encouraged to submit their projects for competitive selection. Each project submitted has a Lead UNEVOC Centre which is responsible for the project's coordination and implementation alongside several other Partner Centres that support the Lead Centre. In this way, all project stakeholders act as beneficiaries and contributors to their project. UNESCO-UNEVOC's role is to support these UNEVOC Centres by providing technical and financial resources for the implementation of the selected joint projects. Following the completion of projects, the Lead Centres form an advisory group under UNESCO-UNEVOC’s coordination to share experiences, to help identify new trends in TVET and recommend strategic directions for the Network to further consider.

Coaction Initiative 2023

After the successful completion of the 2022 edition of the initiative, UNESCO-UNEVOC is now launching a call for proposals for the 2023 edition. The Coaction Initiative seeks project proposals from UNEVOC Centres on the thematic areas that are aligned with the UNESCO-UNEVOC Medium-Term Strategy 2021-2023. This includes:

1. Supporting TVET staff for a digitalized world,

2. TVET for climate action (including Greening TVET),

3. Inclusive TVET (including entrepreneurship for disadvantaged youth and gender equality in TVET),

4. Private sector engagement in TVET, and

5. Strengthening the responsiveness of TVET institutions in the post-COVID-19 era.

Other themes can also be considered, as long as they are in line with the upcoming UNESCO TVET Strategy 2022-2029 (see draft here).

Applications are open to all members of the UNEVOC Network until Sunday, 30 October 2022 at 23.59 CET. Project proposals should be submitted to the UNEVOC Network Secretariat at unevoc.network(at)unesco.org.

Selected project proposals under the Coaction Initiative will receive financial support of up to 30,000 USD to implement the project between January 2023 and July 2023.

Lead Centres of previous programmes may participate in new projects as Partner Centres, while Partner Centres of previous programmes are encouraged to develop and lead their own projects. These projects may be regional or international in scope. Lead Centres are advised to contact UNEVOC Centre Coordinators to ascertain the potential for collaboration. The contact details of UNEVOC Centre Coordinators are available via the UNEVOC Network Directory.
