University of Vocational Technology

University of Vocational Technology (UNIVOTEC) is established in 2008, and functions under the purview of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Skills Development of Sri Lanka. It has a mission to provide services in human resources, curriculum, learning resources development, research and consultancy; to achieve professional excellence with ethical rectitude and to liaise with global TVET sector, academic community and Industry. It is led by the vision to be the leading University providing technical and vocational education for all, with aspirations to achieve professional excellence.

It comprises of two faculties, namely:

  • Faculty of Training Technology, which provides pedagogical training up to degree level for trainers.
  • Faculty of Industrial & Vocational Technology, which provides degree level courses of study for middle level technical personnel
The general objective of the UNIVOTEC is to provide progressive upward movement to the students in the technical education and vocational training system, and, based on their aptitudes and abilities, to acquire university education.

The UNESCO-UNEVOC Skills for Innovation Hubs is part of the initiative 'Developing TVET institutions for entrepreneurship, innovation and sustainability' implemented by UNESCO since 2017, and is supported by the Beijing Caofeidian International Vocational Education City (BCEC), with contributions from the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) and the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).
