BILT Expert Group on the dual transition in the hospitality and tourism sector

In 2023, the Bridging Innovation and Learning in TVET (BILT) project has a new focus on the impact of the dual green and digital transition on skills needs for the hospitality and tourism sector and the TVET system.

In this context, a BILT Expert Group, composed of 29 members representing national bodies, international and regional organizations, TVET providers, and NGOs from Africa, Asia-Pacific, and Europe, investigates the implications of the green and digital transition by:

  • Taking stock of current debates around new skills in the hospitality and tourism sector within the three regions
  • Identifying innovative TVET practices from the hospitality and tourism sector in each region
  • Developing a publication featuring practical recommendations for TVET stakeholders in the hospitality and tourism sector
The work of the Expert Group is led by the Swiss Federal University for Vocational Education and Training (SFUVET), Switzerland, with the support of École d’Hôtellerie et de Tourisme Paul Dubrule (EHT), Cambodia, and Boma International Hospitality College (BIHC), Kenya, representing the three BILT regions.

The kick-off meeting of the Expert Group on 17 March 2023 was an opportunity to confirm the workplan and timeline of the project. The experts will meet six times between March and November 2023. One in-person meeting will be organized on the occasion of the BILT conference 'TVET for hospitality and tourism: Solutions for the digital and green transition' (26-28 June 2023) to present the preliminary results of the research. The final results of the Expert Group will be presented during the BILT Learning Forum, set to take place in Bonn, Germany from 24 to 26 October 2023.
