L’édition 2020 de la Journée mondiale des compétences des jeunes se déroule dans un contexte tout à fait exceptionnel. La plupart des gouvernements du monde ont temporairement fermé des établissements d'enseignement afin de contenir la propagation de la pandémie de COVID-19. Ces fermetures nationales affectent plus de 60 % de la population étudiante mondiale, estime l'Organisation des Nations Unies pour l'éducation, la science et la culture (UNESCO). Plusieurs autres pays ont mis en place des fermetures localisées affectant des millions d'apprenants supplémentaires.
Une enquête réalisée par l’UNESCO, l'Organisation internationale du Travail (OIT) et la Banque mondiale auprès d’organismes d’enseignement et de formation techniques et professionnels (EFTP) révèle que l’apprentissage à distance est aujourd’hui devenu le moyen le plus courant de transmettre des compétences, ce qui entraîne des difficultés considérables en termes de préparation, d’adaptation des programmes, de connectivité, d'évaluation ou de certification des stagiaires et des formateurs.
Actuellement, plus de 1 jeune sur 6 est sans emploi en raison de COVID-19. Les jeunes étant appelés à contribuer à l'effort de relèvement, ils devront avoir la flexibilité et la résilience nécessaires pour s'adapter et faire face à des défis qui seront en constante évolution.
L'événement est organisé par les Missions permanentes du Sri Lanka et du Portugal auprès de l'ONU, le Bureau de l'Envoyé du Secrétaire général pour la jeunesse, l'UNESCO et l'OIT. CIVTE is hosting a virtual conference on the theme of “Fighting against COVID-19 and promoting the development of TVET students — China’s TVET in action”.
NSU is holding a virtual national seminar to raise awareness of skills education, promote various indigenous skills, identify upcoming skills requirements and identify challenges to skilled workers during the pandemic.
NBTVE is hosting a high-level meeting in Tripoli supported by partners and sponsors from the Ministry of Labour, the Authority of Scientific Research, and the Arab Federation for Technical Education, among others.
YabaTech is encouraging students to send in videos as part of a youth stories campaign and raising awareness about the importance of skills training for young people through a social media campaign.
Through the efforts of TVEC, the ILO and the Employers’ Federation of Ceylon, the Skills Passport System is being launched on WYSD by H.E. President Nandasena Gotabaya Rajapaksa. TVEC is also organizing an international webinar series on 15 July.
Due to the global crisis following Covid-19 and the related confinement, on World Youth Skills Day the students of ISAM KIN are supporting the government in its fight against the pandemic by volunteering their time to produce medical masks.
MoHE is collaborating with TEVETA and WorldSkills International Zambia to organize a series of activities, including a speech by the Minister of Higher Education and video documentaries of skilled youth.
ITC is organizing a festival for young people to submit short videos and animated graphics on their skills training. Selected videos will be broadcast on the National Iranian Network.
FTE, represented by The Middle Technical University (MTU), is organizing a virtual event in celebration of WYSD. The President and Vice-President of MTU are hosting the event, where TVET students will share insights, followed by a lecture and panel discussion.
NTA is organizing a TVET E-convention entitled ‘Unleashing the potential: Transforming technical and vocational education and training’. The E-convention runs from 14-16 July and consists of a three-part series of live discussions featuring industry experts.
The University of Eldoret is jointly organizing virtual WYSD activities with four other UNEVOC Centres in Kenya. These activities include the production of videos of young people engaged in skills training and the participation of staff in a virtual conference.
CONIF is raising awareness through a communications campaign along with mobilizing all the institutions in its federal network to highlight the importance of youth skills development on 15 July.
Shenzhen Polytechnic organized a series of activities in June 2020 with the theme of "Fighting Covid-19 with Youth’s Love" to celebrate WYSD. More than 20 events were organized and more than 700 works of students' calligraphy, painting, videos, music, posters, and essays were demonstrated.
iHub is marking WYSD with a series of videos on its MINDLY channel, which are dedicated to parents' and children's concerns during the quarantine.
