Global Education Meeting 2018: synthesis report

The report is organized into five sections. The first section synthesizes the key points from the Brussels Declaration as well as the debates and discussions from GEM 2018, clustering them around some of the main characteristics of education in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development: (i)Education as driver for the SDGs, (ii)Focus on equity and inclusion, (iii)A lifelong and life-wide perspective towards learning (iv)Relevance of learning for both work and citizenship, (v)The central role of teachers and educators, and (vi)Partnerships to deliver on our collective commitments The second section summarizes the highlights from the High-Level Panels including the main policy messages, while the third section provides an overview of the key policy messages from the Technical Workshops of the GEM. The fourth section provides an overview of trends in global education and development and considers some of the issues and challenges around data and monitoring of SDG4. This is followed by the fifth section on regional perspectives that builds on the Education 2030 consultations organized across the world in 2018. The final section provides guidance on the way forward.
