Berufskolleg an der Lindenstraße (BKAL)

BKAL is a vocational college with about 3600 students, and 140 teachers in Cologne, Germany.

The College comprises the Wirtschaftsgymnasium, a three-year fulltime course which allows students to acquire university entrance qualification; a Higher trade school (Höhere Handelsschule), a two-year fulltime course where students acquire an entrance qualification for universities of applied sciences; the Management assistants in retail course, and thirteen other professions in the field of business and administration.

Since 2014, BKAL is certified Fairtrade School.

Since March 2016, BKAL has been implementing the Federal Institute for Vocational education and Training (BIBB, a UNEVOC Centre) pilot project “Promotion of sustainability competence in vocational training in the retail sector (FOENAKO)”, funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). The project focuses on vocational training and the skills required for the sustainable development of educational staff and trainees in the retail sector.

BKAL as an i-hub

The strategic vision of BKAL is developing awareness about sustainable development/business and its establishment in the internal curriculum, as well as to motivate students with a holistic approach (hands-on projects).

Guided Self-Assessment in TKNIKA
Seventh UNESCO-UNEVOC I-hubs Guided-Self Assessment took place in Spain 16-20 September, and was hosted by TKNIKA, The Basque Centre of Research and Applied Innovation in Vocational Education and Training, with Berufskolleg an der Lindenstrasse (BKAL) as a peer reviewer.
