Mentoring is when a role model, or mentor, offers support to another person. A mentor has knowledge and experience in an area and shares it with the person being mentored. For example, an experienced teacher might mentor a student teacher or a teacher starting in the profession.

"The Lifelong Learning Programme (LLP) was designed to enable people, at any stage of their life, to take part in stimulating learning experiences, as well as developing education and training across Europe.
With a budget of nearly €7 billion, the programme, which ran from 2007-2013, funded a range of exchanges, study visits, and networking activities.

Mentor is an experienced professional, normally outside the individual’s direct reporting line, who provides the individual with advice, guidance and support in his or her technical and personal development. The mentor has the added responsibility of acting as a liaison between line personnel and the individual when there is an issue or grievance that affects the training and development process.
