UNEVOC Centre (Uni/Research) since 1995
Kyambogo University is a relatively new University created with the main aim of promoting and advancing knowledge and development of skills in Science, Technology and Education and such other fields having regards for quality, equity, progress and transformation of society.
THE FACULTY OF VOCATIONAL STUDIES
In pursuance of the mission of the university of advancing and promoting knowledge and development of skills in science, technology and education and in such other fields having regard to quality, equity, progress and transformation of society, the Faculty of Vocational Studies is guided by a number of strategic goals which include to:
1) provide programmes in Vocational disciplines relevant to societal needs;
2) increase technological awareness and innovations;
3) enhance transfer of technology to individuals and the community;
4) produce sufficient numbers of teachers and other personnel in vocational disciplines;
5) conduct research and publish in areas of vocational studies; and,
6) enhance research and application of vocational pedagogy.
Accordingly, as the demand for vocational courses increases, the Faculty has positioned itself to confront the challenges head through specifically developing academic programmes in vocational studies, promoting technological awareness and innovations for transfer to individuals and the community for development, training teachers of vocational subjects for schools and colleges, cultivating diligence and respect for work and the spirit of education for work in all occupations; and conducting research and publishing especially in the area of agriculture, human nutrition and dietetics, home Economics, art and design among others. Currently, the faculty is offering 19 programmes at certificates, diploma, bachelors and graduate levels. In fact, the faculty boosts of well qualified staff in diverse areas as exemplified by the number of Associate Professors.
CENTER FOR VOCATIONAL STUDIES & LIFELONG LEARNING (CeVoSLL)
MASTERS IN VOCATIONAL PEDAGOGY
A UNEVOC Center
The CeVoSLL is established on the following grounds;
Professional and vocational education known as VET (vocational education and training) covering both the technical and vocational education. Take place at vocational schools in collaboration with social partners. Vocational teacher training are included as well.
Learning / training in the workplace, focusing on how individuals learn and how individuals learning are facilitated in the world of work. Various mentoring, vocational training in companies and apprenticeships are central themes.
Lifelong learning is about educational, organizational and institutional arrangements for learning throughout life and in all life´s various contexts where among others validation of prior learning are central. (validation of prior learning competence acquired in the world of work for example). Under the label life learning, we can include adult learning as well.
Kyambogo University’s mission is To be a Centre of Academic and Professional Excellence.
Vision: To advance and promote knowledge and development of skills in Science, Technology and Education, and in such other fields having regards for quality, equity, progress and transformation of society.
The Center for Vocational Studies and Life Long Learning aims to;
- To conduct research in vocational education and Training and Lifelong learning
- To conduct research in in Vocational Teacher Education and Trainers in work related learning
- Conduct action and developmental research work in VET
- To publish and disseminate research findings
- conduct training programmes for teachers and practitioners in VET
- Conduct seminars and workshops focusing on VET and work related learning
- Organise symposiums, forums and conferences with focus in VET
