Akadēmiskās informācijas centrs (AIC) (AIC)

UNEVOC Centre (Uni/Research) since 1998

Academic Information Centre (AIC) is a non-profit institution, foundation established in 1994 by the Ministry of Education and Science and University of Latvia, Institute of Mathematics and Computer Science.


The aim of AIC stated in the statutes is to ensure free movement of individuals in the field of education and employment.


The main objectives of AIC are to provide information and provide the participation of Latvia in European Council, European Union, UNESCO education networks; to implement tasks stated in Latvian legislation to provide free movement of persons in the field of education and employment; to provide support for higher education quality assurance by organising accreditation (quality assessment) of higher education institutions and study directions, and licencing of study programmes.

Regular tasks

Regular Tasks: The functions and work tasks of AIC are determined by the agreement with the Ministry of Education and Science. AIC implements the following functions:

  • Latvian representative to the European diploma recognition networks ENIC/NARIC - Latvian ENIC/NARIC centre - recognition of international credentials, informing on Latvian system institutions or citizens abroad, informing about foreign systems in Latvia;
  • Information institution on recognition of professional qualifications in regulated professions and issuing European Professional Card;
  • National Europass centre – promotion of Europass transparency tools, issuing mobility passport;
  • EQF National coordination point (NCP) for referencing national qualifications framework to the European Qualifications Framework – information of society, coordination on writing self certification referencing report; maintaining Latvian Qualifications Database - information system that contains summary of data about qualifications referenced to the European and Latvian Qualifications Framework and provides information on the knowledge, skills and competences each qualification includes;
  • Quality Agency for Higher Education (QAHE) - coordination of licensing and accreditation of higher education institutions and study fields (including study programmes).
