Individualized education plan (IEP)

A part of planning, monitoring, and evaluating a learner’s progress in accordance with an adapted education program. In some countries, an IEP is a legal document developed for each learner with a disability or special education needs. In crisis-affected contexts and during emergencies, where a comprehensive assessment or diagnosis of a disability or health condition is often difficult to conduct, an IEP can be developed to inform modification to curriculum, assessments, or instruction. An IEP should be individualized and designed with a single learner in mind through a participatory approach, whereby the young person, their family, teacher(s), and other key personnel, such as therapists, are actively involved in the process of selecting the appropriate reasonable accommodations and in making decisions about necessary adaptations or modifications.
