The Education 2030 Agenda highlights the need to rethink technical and vocational education and training (TVET) and skills development. Out of the seven targets to achieve by 2030, two are directly linked to TVET. They aim to “ensure equal access to affordable and quality TVET for all” (SDG4.3) and to “increase the number of youth and adults with relevant skills for employment, decent work and entrepreneurship (SDG4.4). In light of this, what can the global community learn from the promising cases in the Asia-Pacific region where ICT has been used to enhance teaching and learning for skills development?
This publication is an attempt to respond to these needs, more specifically to improve the pedagogical relevance of TVET in meeting the changing skills demands of a digital society. It documents some of the promising and innovative practices where various forms of ICT were harnessed to enhance teaching and learning practices in TVET institutions from six countries across the region: Australia, Hong Kong SAR of China, New Zealand, Philippines, Republic of Korea and Singapore. Along with an analysis of key success factors and challenges in each of the cases, the publication provides policy recommendations for organizations and countries to avoid common pitfalls and to strengthen their implementations with a greater chance for success.
